I’m looking for a version of AIM that will run on my Nokia 6600 (or AIM compatible client). The version on AIM.co.uk is freely downloadable, but locked to the O2 network. I found another version on my-symbian.com that looks the same, but costs USD20.

If anyone knows of a free solution, I’d be most appreciative if you could let me know. Ideally there would be a single client that supports AIM, ICQ and MSN simeltaneously. Something like Trillian, but that works on the Nokia 6600. I’d actually be willing to pay for something like that. If not, then free applications that support them separately would be good too.

UPDATE: After some more digging, I’ve found Agile Messenger. It does exactly what I’m looking for, and it’s free. It’s a Jabber based client, so it supports AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, and the Jabber protocol. It also runs on pretty much any mobile platform. Also from Agile Mobile is the Agile Lie Detector. It looks so cool!

I purchased a new router on Sunday. As luck would have it, the router interface was also in Chinese as well! Luckily I’ve tinkered around with routers enough that this didn’t really set me back during initial setup. However, at the end of the day I got tired of trying to decipher (guess) the Chinese eqivalents of IPSec, PPTP, UPnP, and log messages, so I caved in and flashed it with firmware from the D-Link UK website (my DI-604 is a hardware revision D1 model, which only D-Link Europe and China support). Now my router is happily operating in English mode. I would have preferred a Linksys BEFSR41, but it was a good 65% more expensive than the DI-604, which was only CN¥480.

Accoring to CNNmoney, the new $50 bill is set to debut this September 28th. It actually looks rather cool, and the CNNmoney article has good pictures at a decent resolution. It’s worth taking a look at.

These guys are amazing. Two college students have developed a frontend command line Unix/Linux program that will order pizzas from Dominos! Check out Pizza Party! Sadly, the Dominos in my area does not support online ordering, otherwise I would just have to try this out. This is pure genius.

It’s that time of year again. Yes, the time of year where University of Chicago students team up to collect/build/collate stupid things, and make fools out of themselves in doing so. That’s right. Scavhunt! Check out this year’s list to see what things people are going to be making/doing until Sunday.

Yeah, I know the site is completely slashdotted right now, but let’s add a little bit to their pain . Slashdot linking directly to a 365KB file on a small desktop machine must have brought the said poor machine to its knees.

Well, I just signed up for TheFaceBook, which has turned out to be a real big time sink, because its really cool. It’s basically like Orkut, but just a lot more useful, and has far far more people who I know on it.

They have a “visualize friends network” thingy, which is supposed to pop up an SVG render of a person’s network, but they send it as svgz (gzip-encoded SVG) without including a “Content-Encoding: gzip” HTTP header, so Mozilla/Firefox barfs on the svgz (because of the server misconfiguration). I shot them off an email about it, including telling them how to fix it. One of my friends who I bcc’ed on the email also sent them a line about it as well. I just hope that it doesn’t fall on deaf ears and they fix it, because its a really cool feature, except that it doesn’t work right now except on IE with the Adobe SVG plugin. If they fix the “Content-Encoding: gzip” HTTP header issue for svgz files then everything will be good.

I was talking to a friend earlier tonight, and he was asking me if he had any computer games that would work on his obsolete-ish laptop. For whatever reason, the first thing that came into my mind was Space Invaders, which I remember playing as a 5-year old back in 1988. So, I went to Google, and I found this really cool site that had some nice games for free. Here it is:

http://www.neave.com/games/

Playing them brought back a lot of memories from when I used to play Pac-Man at my friends’ homes, and had all sorts of other cool fun. Thanks Neave Games for making me remember what it was like to be a small child again.
